Self-care skills are activities or tasks that allow a child to take care of their own body. Occupational therapy addresses this by improving motor skills in order to increase independence with the following self-care skills:
Dressing/undressing- putting on and taking off clothing, fasteners such as buttons, snaps, and zippers, tying shoe laces
Grooming- bathing, washing hands and face, wiping nose and face, brushing teeth
Toileting- bowel and bladder management, grooming tasks related to toileting
Feeding- utensil use (spoon, fork, knife), drinking from a cup, positioning for feeding
Sleep- sensory strategies to improve sleep regulation, setting up routines and visual schedules
